The draft picture for the Vikings is a lot clearer now that they’ve gone through the first waves of free agency and locked down a few of their need positions.
After the signings we saw, you can cross nose tackle, slot cornerback and edge rusher off the list of critical needs.
But linebacker and long-term solution at quarterback are still on the list. And outside cornerback is there too.
How does this affect the Vikings when it comes to mock drafting?
It doesn’t really.
The main target positions for the Vikings at the top of mock drafts are still quarterback, linebacker and cornerback.
So take your pick of one of the top QBs, Khalil Mack or Justin Gilbert.
This week, the FanSided mock draft goes with QB Johnny Manziel. Way to not drop Teddy Bridgewater just based on his mediocre gloveless pro day.
If you want to go pure BFA, wide receiver Mike Evans or OT Jake Matthews could be considered.
But really? I still think plan A is the trade down. No matter how the top of the draft shakes out, an incredibly good player is going to be available at 8.
This is the year to cash in with the big Julio Jones-type trade.
The Vikings may not be in an ideal position to take a franchise quarterback, but they are in an ideal position to parlay their pick into a cornucopia of picks.
You know that’s what Rick Spielman wants to do.
