Viking fans are buying in on Teddy Bridgewater early and they are buying in hard. The evidence is right there in the sales of Bridgewater’s jerseys.

Per NFL PR, Bridgewater currently has the fourth best-selling jersey among all the rookies, trailing only Johnny Manziel, Michael Sam and Jadeveon Clowney. Blake Bortles is #5.

Being a QB certainly doesn’t hurt Bridgewater’s jersey sales – three of the top five guys are QBs – but it’s more than just the position he plays.

Bridgewater has a big-time national profile thanks to the media attention he received in college. And, Viking fans are just excited to see him come aboard.

Fans are thrilled to run out and plunk down their money for a Bridgewater #5, because they believe Bridgewater will finally be the QB to lead the Vikings to the promised land.

It remains to be seen whether Bridgewater actually can be that guy. First he has to lock down the starting job in Minnesota. It might be awhile before he rises to #1 on the depth chart.

The Vikings don’t have to hurry with Bridgwater, because they have Matt Cassel.

Even so, I argue the Vikings should give Bridgewater a fair shot in camp to beat Cassel. Recent comments by Mike Zimmer suggest the coach would prefer Bridgewater win the job sooner rather than later.

Whatever the realities of Bridgwater’s situation, Viking fans are sold on him. Enough to plop down hard earned money for his jersey.
