Things move fast in the NFL. Earlier today, it was reported that Lestar Jean was released by Minnesota with an injury designation and Josh Cooper was signed to take his place.
Well, since then, Lestar Jean has cleared waivers and has been placed on the Vikings Injured Reserve list. Since he’s on Injured Reserve, he will not count against the team’s player limit.
This information came from the Vikings PR Twitter account. Here is the tweet:
WR Lestar Jean has cleared waivers and will revert to Injured Reserve. He will not count against the current 90-man roster limit.

During free agency, Lestar Jean was signed by the Minnesota Vikings to a one year deal worth $635,000. It appears as though Jean will not be able to participate in any team activities for the rest of the year and his contract with the team will most likely expire. At that point, he will become an unrestricted free agent. It will be up to General Manager Rick Spielman and the impressions of the Vikings coaching staff as to whether or not to offer him another deal for next season.
Jean’s deal included only $10,000 in guaranteed money, so his injury that placed him on IR doesn’t hurt the team’s salary cap situation very much.
We at The Viking Age wish Lestar Jean a speedy recovery and hope that he can be back to 100% next year.
