Teddy Bridgewater Snubbed By NFL.Com Fantasy Football

Today, the folks at NFL.com Fantasy Football put together a video showcasing the best 5 rookie preseason performances according to standard fantasy scoring.  While there were some fantastic rookies showcased in the video, there was a glaring omission from from the countdown: the Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

Here are the five players included in the video and their fantasy point totals for the entire span of the preseason:

5. Kelvin Benjamin, Carolina Panthers

  • 173 receiving yards
  • 1 touchdown
  • 23 fantasy points

4. Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars

  • 521 passing yards
  • 2 passing touchdowns
  • 28 fantasy points

3. Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders

  • 326 passing yards
  • 4 passing touchdowns
  • 29 fantasy points

2. Lorenzo Taliaferro, Baltimore Ravens

  • 243 rushing yards
  • 1 rushing touchdown
  • 30 fantasy points

1. Corey Washington, New York Giants

  • 155 receiving yards
  • 4 receiving touchdowns
  • 39 fantasy points

While these were all fantastic preseasons for these young players, the fact that Teddy Bridgewater isn’t on this list is somewhat absurd.  Since quarterbacks get 1 point per 25 passing yards and 4 points for a passing touchdown, here is Bridgewater’s stat line:

Teddy Bridgewater, Minnesota Vikings

  • 283 passing yards
  • 5 passing touchdowns
  • 31 fantasy points

Those numbers should be good enough to place Teddy Bridgewater as the #2 rookie fantasy football point getter on this countdown.  Instead, the Minnesota Vikings first round pick was completely ignored.  I would expect this from other sports websites, but I do tend to hold NFL.com to a higher standard.  However, maybe I should reconsider my stance with their brand of journalism.

While this has no impact on anything since I don’t believe anyone plays preseason fantasy football, I have gotten a bit sour from the negative assessments of the Minnesota Vikings and their roster that I have been reading lately.  Although I know I am overreacting with this, was hoping more people would have noticed Bridgewater’s solid and encouraging preseason performance.
