Minnesota Vikings Week 2 Fantasy Football Roundup

Fantasy football is one of the most popular ways for fans of the sport to show off their knowledge of the NFL and its players in an entertaining and possibly profitable way.  It’s always fun to take a look and see how the players on the Minnesota Vikings squad did in fantasy football and how they are projected to do next week.

Here are the notable fantasy football performances for week 1 according to NFL.com’s standard scoring:

QB Matt Cassel

  • 170 passing yards, 2 passing TD, -3 rushing yards:  14.5 fantasy points

RB Adrian Peterson

  • 75 rushing yards, 18 receiving yards: 9.3 fantasy points

WR Cordarrelle Patterson

  • 102 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, 26 receiving yards: 18.8 fantasy points

WR Greg Jennings

  • 56 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD: 11.8 fantasy points

TE Kyle Rudolph

  • 16 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD: 7.6 fantasy points

K Blair Walsh

  • 2 FG made (52, 46), 4 extra points: 12 fantasy points

I bet there aren’t many fans out there that predicted that the Vikings defense would be the top scoring play for the team during week 1.  With Adrian Peterson having a disappointing fantasy output and even being outrushed by wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, it is clear to see that this is a football team that does whatever is necessary to get the ball in their playmakers hands.  They manufactured touches for Patterson and ran designed plays for Kyle Rudolph in the red zone.  This seems like a team that could possibly have some of the top scoring plays each week.

Looking forward to week 2, the Minnesota Vikings will bring Tom Brady into Minnesota for a matchup against the New England Patriots.  Expect a much better offense from the Patriots than the effort that was put forth from the Rams last week.  New England should find some success on short passes to running backs that will open things up for them in the middle of the field, so don’t expect a similar Minnesota Vikings defense score.

Here are the predictions for notable Vikings players for week 2 against the Patriots according to NFL.com’s fantasy football:

QB Matt Cassel

  • 218 passing yards, 1 passing TD, 1 INT, 7 rush yards: 11.42 fantasy points

RB Adrian Peterson

  • 127 rushing yards, 1 rush TD, 12 rec yards, 1 fumble lost: 17.9 fantasy points

WR Cordarrelle Patterson

  • 11 rush yards, 64 rec yards, 1 rec TD: 13.5 fantasy points

WR Greg Jennings

  • 50 rec yards, 1 rec TD: 11 fantasy points

TE Kyle Rudolph

  • 41 rec yards, 1 rec TD: 10.1 fantasy points

K Blair Walsh

  • 3 total FG, 2 extra points: 12 fantasy points

Vikings defense

  • 3 sacks, 1 INT, 1 fumble recovery, 34 points allowed: 6 fantasy points

With 6 members of the Minnesota Vikings projected to score double digit fantasy points, the Vikings could soon be one of the teams that fantasy owners have quite a few players from on their squad.  Personally, I believe that they have Cordarrelle Patterson’s number a little low, but otherwise they could be fairly spot on.  It makes sense to have the Vikings defense projected a low point output against the Patriots offense since Tom Brady is there and he always seems to make the most of his opportunities.

Just as a note, the New England Patriots are expected to give up 20 points, so I guess NFL.com Fantasy Football projected final score is 34-20 with the Patriots coming out on top of the Minnesota Vikings.
