Teddy Bridgewater overtakes Johnny Manziel in jersey sales

Last year right around this time, there were many that believed Teddy Bridgewater would be the definitive No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Well, after what some considered shaky workouts, Bridgewater ended up as the No. 32 overall selection of the Vikings, a few picks after the polarizing Johnny Manziel was taken by the Browns.

Throughout their collegiate careers, Manziel always overshadowed Bridgewater, mainly given their differing personalities. Manziel seemed to always beat Bridgewater in media attention, and he took that a step further by being selected before him.

But with their NFL careers getting underway, given the injury to Matt Cassel, Teddy Bridgewater has beaten Manziel to the starting lineup, as he made his first start last weekend against the Atlanta Falcons, a start that finished with a 41-28 win.

Now, it seems as if Bridgewater has passed out Manziel in another category, and that’s weekly jersey sales.

According to the DICK’S Sporting Goods Jersey Report, which reflects sales both nationwide and online, Teddy Bridgewater surpassed Manziel as the top-selling rookie jersey, a seat that very few thought Manziel could be dethroned from anytime soon.

As more time goes on and his name is brought up more and more in the national media, Bridgewater is starting to get the notoriety that he deserves, and his rapid jersey sale rise certainly reflects that.

Although, Bridgewater has already suffered a setback, as he injured his ankle in that start against the Falcons. At time of publishing, it’s not know whether or not he will play against the rival Green Bay Packers in the Thursday night slate.
