Minnesota Vikings Vs Lions: Calvin Johnson Could Miss Sunday

It’s only Monday, but things are already looking bleak for Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson‘s chances of playing against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Calvin Johnson, or Megatron as he is known in the football world, re-injured his ankle in Sunday’s loss against the Buffalo Bills.  He was a game-time decision for that game and could be held out of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings as a precautionary measure.

That news was handed down from ESPN’s Michael Rothstein in a tweet that went out earlier today.  Here is that tweet:

“Caldwell” in this tweet refers to Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell, who has led the Lions to a 3-2 start and look to be a very competitive force in the NFC North.  The fact that he is “strongly” considering holding Megatron out of the game this early in the week says a lot for the severity of the injury and how important the dynamic pass catcher is to the Detroit Lions offense.

If Calvin Johnson can’t play, look for the Lions to give a bigger role to Corey Fuller and Jeremy Ross, who are much less of a threat than Megatron is, but are still very capable pass catchers.

Sports Illustrated’s Peter King believes that Calvin could miss more than 1 week with this injury, making it sound even more likely that Johnson will miss Sunday’s contest against the Minnesota Vikings.
