Pleasant Surprise Award

Matt Kalil

After two very subpar seasons and an underwhelming training camp, it appeared as if this season would be when Matt Kalil officially captured the “bust” label. However, through four games, he’s been very solid at left tackle. According to Pro Football Focus, Matt Kalil only allowed three pressures through his first three games this season. Through three games last season, Kalil allowed three sacks and 14 pressures.

Sure, Kalil was beaten badly on a couple plays in Week 4 against Denver. Keep in mind, though, that he was trying to block one of the best pass rushers in the NFL in DeMarcus Ware that whole game.

So far, it doesn’t appear that the Vikings’ offensive line struggles can be blamed on Kalil. While he’s got a long way to go to live up to his value as the fourth overall pick in the NFL Draft, he’s surely headed back in the right direction.

Honorable Mention: Captain Munnerlyn, Linval Joseph
