U.S. Bank Stadium, the future home of the Minnesota Vikings, recent had the translucent and flexible roof completed on the state of the art facility.
The Minnesota Vikings are currently in the playoff race and even working hard to keep the spot at the top of the NFC North, but it’s hard not to look ahead at the magnificent structure that will be the team’s home for the 2016 season.
It seems like almost every day that there is either a new feature put into place or construction hits a milestone. This time, the Minnesota Vikings have announced that the translucent roof over the field has been put into place according to an article on the Star Tribune website.

The state of the art roof is a ETFE pneumatic roof. It is composed of ethylene tetrafluoroethylene plastic to allow it to be translucent, flexible, lightweight and strong. While there were other materials that could have been used for the project, Minnesota Vikings executive vice president Lester Bagley believes that ETFE is “the best solution for this market and this climate. We wanted to do something innovative, but also something functional and practical.”
It will be exciting for the Minnesota Vikings to move back indoors following two seasons at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium. The Vikings will be able to establish a home field advantage once again and finally have a stable facility for football for many, many years.
