4. Vikings stun Packers in playoff game at Lambeau Field
Jan. 9, 2005. The Vikings and Packers faced off in the postseason for the first time ever.
The great rivals had never faced each other in the postseason. The Packers and Brett Favre were supposed to romp. But nobody told Daunte Culpepper, Randy Moss, Moe Williams, Antoine Winfield and the Vikings.
Mike Tice’s gang squeaked into the playoffs with an 8-8 record and were supposed to have no shot against the 10-6 Packers.
The Vikings put the fear of god into Green Bay early on. In the first quarter, a scrambling Daunte Culpepper improvised a flip to Moe Williams who ran 68 yards for the touchdown.
Still in the first quarter, the Vikings went up 14-0 when Culpepper found Randy Moss for a 20-yard touchdown.
With his team down two touchdowns Brett Favre went into gunslinger mode and threw an interception to Antoine Winfield, his first of four picks on the day. That set up the field goal that put the Vikings ahead 17-0.
The Vikings were ahead 24-17 in the fourth quarter when Culpepper found Moss for a second TD. Moss celebrated by pretending to moon the shell-shocked Lambeau crowd.
The Vikings would hold on for the 31-17 victory, the second-most-stunning upset win the Vikings ever pulled off in the post-season.
