Minnesota Vikings: Top 30 draft picks in franchise history
By Dan Zinski
30. Robert Smith
Ohio State product Robert Smith was taken by the Vikings with the 21st overall pick in the 1993 draft.
The speedy Smith came into his own in 1997, surpassing the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the first time in his career.
Smith would go for over 1,000 yards four straight seasons, topping out at 1,521 yards in 2000. He made two Pro Bowls in that span.
And after that 2000 season Smith decided to retire rather than subject his body to anymore punishment.
The Vikings made several playoff runs with Smith as the lightning-fast running back complement to all their great receivers and big-armed QBs like Randall Cunningham, Jeff George and Daunte Culpepper.
