Minnesota Vikings: Top 30 draft picks in franchise history
By Dan Zinski
9. Ron Yary
The Vikings have had the no. 1 overall pick only twice in their history.
In 1961 they used the first pick in the draft on running back Tommy Mason, who would go on to a solid career.
In 1968 they used the first pick on USC offensive tackle Ron Yary, who would go on to a Hall of Fame career.
In 14 years with the Vikings, Yary was named All-Pro six times and made seven Pro Bowl appearances.
He was the anchor of the offensive line on all four Vikings Super Bowl teams.
In 2001, Yary was enshrined in Canton.
I’d say the Vikings nailed it when they took Yary first overall.
