Minnesota Vikings: 5 New Year’s resolutions for 2016

With 2016 just around the corner, it’s time for the Minnesota Vikings to make their New Year’s resolutions to change some things that hurt in previous years.

Every year, millions of people make resolutions before New Year’s Day that they’re going to change something in their life. Maybe they want to hit the gym more, be more confident talking to the opposite sex, or maybe even watch some movie that they’ve been meaning to check out. While this is usually a practice that is forgotten about less than a month into the new year, there’s no reason it can’t be applied to the Minnesota Vikings.

Here are five New Year’s resolutions that the Minnesota Vikings should make this year:

  • No more printing tee shirts. EVER.  The “Beat Green Bay” shirts might have been the worst things the Vikings did all year. It may have even been more embarrassing than the 49ers or Seahawks games. From here on out, let the NFL’s merchandising department make the shirts and have Zimmer stick to swearing and coaching.
  • Be more consistent.  Like I mentioned above, those Seattle and San Francisco games were brutal to watch, so I’m hoping for the good kind of consistency rather than the bad. Still, the peaks and valleys for the Minnesota Vikings have been like taking a walk through the Swiss Alps and that is something that really good teams have worked to minimize.

Continue to deny the NFL of a Vikings “Color Rush”.  Some of those Color Rush uniforms were absolutely horrible. Between not worrying about colorblind fans and the ketchup/mustard game, Thursday Night Football was a sight that made sore eyes. Luckily, Minnesota didn’t take part in that absurd marketing scheme and stuck with their usual jerseys.

  • Figure out how to draft/develop/evaluate wide receivers.  If there’s one position that the Vikings don’t seen to know a lick about, it’s pass catchers. Sure, every once in a while the team will find a blue chip player like Randy Moss or Cris Carter, but recent draft and free agent history has been horrible, especially with early picks and high-priced veterans.
  • Build a gigantic trophy case in U.S. Bank Stadium.  As Minnesota Vikings fans, I’m sure we’ve all seen the memes of the team’s trophy case (often used by Packers fans) to humiliate the team. Yes, the team doesn’t have any Super Bowl titles yet, but that doesn’t mean it will stay that way forever. Or at least I hope that won’t be the case.
