Three former members of the Minnesota Vikings have been named finalists in the running to become inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2016.

Yesterday, NFL.com released the list of players who were named finalists for the 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2016. Included on that list were hree players who at one time were a part of the Minnesota Vikings franchise.

Last year, the Vikings had long time center and gritty offensive lineman Mick Tingelhoff inducted as a part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2015 and it appears as though 2016’s group has a solid chance at having representatives who used to wear purple jerseys.

Here are the three individuals who played for the Minnesota Vikings who are up for the honors:

Morten Andersen

  • Andersen was only part of the Minnesota Vikings during the 2004 NFL season, but he connected on 18 of his 22 field goals and made all 45 extra points for Minnesota. Over the course of his career, he played 382 games for five different teams. He is perhaps best known for being scoring a total of 2,544 points, making him the NFL’s leading scorer of all time.

Brett Favre

  • As a part of the Minnesota Vikings during the 2009 and 2010 seasons, Favre led the team to the NFC championship game in the playoffs while giving many memorable moments along the way. Arguably the biggest moment in Favre’s Vikings career was the miracle touchdown to Greg Lewis against the San Francisco 49ers to cap off an improbable victory as time expired.

Tony Dungy

  • Playing his college football at the University of Minnesota, it was only natural that Dungy would return to the state to be the defensive coordinator of the Vikings from 1992 until 1995. After that time, he was scooped up as a head coach by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before landing his most notable job as the Indianapolis Colts head coach in 2002.

Congratulations to former Minnesota Vikings players Brett Favre and Morten Andersen as well as former coach Tony Dungy on being named finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2016 and best of luck on them in their quest to join the NFL’s elite in Canton, Ohio.
