The Minnesota Vikings are going to need to buy a new Gjallarhorn because their old one just broke in the cold.

Blowing the Gjallarhorn is a pre-game tradition that has long been a part of Minnesota Vikings games.

Injured Vikings fullback Rhett Ellison was set to blow the Gjallarhorn ahead of today’s Vikings-Seahawks playoff game but that won’t happen now because the sub-zero temperatures in Minneapolis caused the Gjallarhorn to shatter.

No kidding. It’s so cold in Minneapolis that the Gjallarhorn became compromised and broke apart.

And there are people who paid money to sit there in the seats today.

The last time I checked it was -5 degrees in Minneapolis. That number is expected to creep toward zero as the day progresses.

Hopefully the cold weather won’t result in any casualties beyond the life it has already claimed.

RIP Gjallarhorn.

The Vikings and Seahawks are set to kick off at 12:05 CT.

Update: The Vikings rolled out their old Gjallarhorn. They should have used this one in the first place. It looks much sturdier than the other one. This is what you get for using a cheap Gjallarhorn.

Rhett Ellison, you’re up.
