The Minnesota Vikings select TCU WR Josh Docston in Mel Kiper’s first mock draft of 2016.
Welcome to the 2016 offseason, Minnesota Vikings fans. Yes I know you were hoping to hold off on this for at least one more week but unfortunately things didn’t work out against Seattle, so here we are.
Now that this reality has set in we might as well get down to business. It’s time to start wildly guessing about which players the Vikings will draft!
We begin Draft Guessing Season 2016 by having a gander at Mel Kiper’s initial mock draft for 2016. At this very very preliminary stage, Kiper has the Vikings targeting wide receiver with the #23 overall pick (via ESPN Insider).
"23.) Minnesota VikingsJosh Doctson, WR, TCUThe Vikings are moving indoors and Teddy Bridgewater has a chance to really take off. Do the Vikings want to pay Mike Wallace another $11.5 million to be a part of it? They have Stefon Diggs, but Doctson gives them another weapon, a guy who can stretch the field, win after the catch, and a reliable set of hands."
Wallace is almost certainly not coming back for $11.5 million, but re-negotiating his contract and bringing him back for way less money is a possibility. Mike Zimmer has already said that he “loves” Wallace and wants him back.
Whether Wallace would be amenable to returning for less money is another question altogether.
Here’s a scouting report on Josh Doctson (via With the First Pick):
"Doctson is a good all-around receiver but it’s his speed that makes him special. This is a quick-twitch athlete capable of taking the top off the defense. Defenders are very aware of his speed which helps open space underneath."

Minnesota Golden Gophers fans may recall the one-handed catch Doctson made against them a couple years ago.
Well he has a nice vertical!
