Former Minnesota Vikings team owner Red McCombs has offered to help the Oakland Raiders football team move out of California and into San Antonio, Texas.

It’s been a long time since the name Red McCombs was uttered in the same sentence as the Minnesota Vikings. However, he was a huge part a franchise’s history as the team’s owner after he bought the team in 1998 and then sold it to the Wilf family prior to the 2005 NFL season.

However, McCombs was best known for his posturing. He was constantly using the threat of the Minnesota Vikings relocating to coax the state of Minnesota, the city of Minneapolis, and other investors into building a new stadium. Sadly, those words were lost on most people, since the Vikings were still locked into a deal that made the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome their home.

Now that McCombs has been away from football for a while, his name has popped back up in the news. This time, it’s in regards to the Oakland Raiders.

You see, the Raiders were one of the teams that applied for relocation to Los Angeles. After the Rams won the right to be California’s newest team and reports were out that the San Diego Chargers would share the new facility with them, the Raiders were left on the outside looking in.

However, the former Minnesota Vikings owner is now looking to help the Oakland Raiders relocate anyway. According to a report on the Sports Illustrated website, McCombs is more than willing to help the Raiders find sponsors and partners to help build a stadium in San Antonio, Texas.

"“What happened [Tuesday] in Houston was absolutely the greatest thing that could happen to us short of getting somebody committed to come in here, because that cleared the runway to where now he can make his decision and go anywhere he wants to,” McCombs said."

Texas has shown to be a hotbed for sports. Not only are they home to the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, but they also are proud to house the NBA’s Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, and Dallas Mavericks, the NHL’s Dallas Stars and MLB’s Houston Astros and Texas Rangers.
