Pat Shurmur to interview for Minnesota Vikings (Report)
By Dan Zinski
Pat Shurmur is reportedly set to interview for a position on the Vikings’ coaching staff.
According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the Minnesota Vikings will interview former Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur for a position on the coaching staff. As Rapoport points out, the only current opening on the Vikings’ staff is at RB coach.
Shurmur served one game as interim head coach of the Eagles after the team fired Chip Kelly. Shurmur was given his release by the Eagles on Thursday.
The 50-year-old Shurmur served as Eagles OC from 2013-2015. He was head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 2011 to 2012.
Shurmur was offensive coordinator of the Rams from 2009-2010 and is reportedly being considered to return to that position.
Shurmur’s first NFL job was as a tight ends coach and later a quarterbacks coach under Andy Reid in Philadelphia.
The Vikings RB coach job came open this week when the team flip-flopped on its initial position regarding Kirby Wilson and allowed him to go to Cleveland after first blocking him. Wilson left to take a position as running game coordinator under new Browns coach Hue Jackson.

Shurmur’s prominence as a former head coach and top assistant has led to speculation that he could be interviewing for a more substantial position on the Vikings than RB coach.
Though Norv Turner’s job is presumably safe, some wonder if Shurmur might be added as a passing game coordinator working alongside Turner. Shurmur is a long-time proponent of the West Coast offense and the Vikings could be looking to incorporate more WC principles in order to help Teddy Bridgewater.
