The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly likely to be matched up against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day in 2016.

If you’re a Minnesota Vikings fan, there’s a very good chance your 2016 Thanksgiving plans will include watching the Purple do battle with the Lions.

According to a report in Sports Business Daily, the Vikings are likely to be matched up against Detroit as part of the NFL’s traditional Turkey Day triple-header:

"Sources said that the league is likely to schedule a Cowboys-Redskins matchup for Fox’s Thanksgiving Day game. Look for the league to cross-flex an NFC North rival to play the Lions on CBS, most likely the Vikings. The Lions’ only two home games against AFC opponents are unattractive TV matchups (Jacksonville and Tennessee). The Bears have played the past two Thanksgivings, and the Packers have played two of the past three, creating an opening for the Vikings."

The Vikings last played on Thanksgiving in 2000 when they beat the Cowboys 27-15. They famously destroyed the Cowboys on Thanksgiving in 1998 behind an epic performance by rookie sensation Randy Moss.

The Vikes last played Detroit on Thanksgiving in 1995, losing to the Lions 44-38. They shut out the Lions 23-0 on Turkey Day in 1988, just a year after beating the Cowboys 44-38 in overtime.

The Vikings’ first appearance on Thanksgiving happened way back in 1969 when they beat the Lions 27-0. They would not appear on Thanksgiving again until 1987.

The Vikings’ current streak of 15 years without a Thanksgiving appearance appears to be coming to an end this year. We await confirmation.
