The NFL combine may have helped identify a firm first round WR target for the Minnesota Vikings: TCU’s Josh Doctson.

Fans who want the Vikings to target TCU WR Josh Doctson on draft day just got a little more ammo to help them make their case. Doctson has completed his work outs at the combine in Indianapolis and he was the top performer at wide receiver.

Note that Ohio State receivers Braxton Miller and Michael Thomas finished second and third on the list. Thomas has also been linked to the Vikings with the #23 overall pick.

Let’s have a gander at some of Doctson’s on-field work from Saturday morning.

The man generally regarded as the #1 receiver prospect in the draft, Laquon Treadwell, did not have as good a day as Josh Doctson. Treadwell of course declined to run the 40, which raised red flags for some people. But Treadwell did participate in other drills including the vertical and broad jump and, well, maybe he wishes he’d skipped the combine altogether.

Folks who have Treadwell as their top receiver are certainly not going to drop him behind Josh Doctson simply on the basis of a few combine drills. But folks who favor Doctson may now feel that their position has been solidified.

Friendly reminder: For all we know the Vikings have no interest in drafting a receiver in the first round. I doubt Josh Doctson will still be available for the Vikes in the second.
