Mike Harris says the Minnesota Vikings have offered him a contract worth $3.5 million over two years.
He was arguably the Vikings’ best and most consistent offensive lineman in 2015, and it appears he will be returning for 2016.
Right guard Mike Harris tells Pioneer-Press writer Chris Tomasson that the Vikings have offered him a new two-year contract worth $3.5 million.
The Vikings have until Monday to lock Harris up or he can become a free agent. Harris indicated that he is mulling over the Vikings’ offer.
Harris told Tomasson he would like to remain in Minnesota (via Pioneer-Press):
"“I see myself in Minnesota for the rest of my career,” Harris said. “That’s where I want to be. So hopefully we get the contract ready this weekend. I’m excited. It’s going to be a great season for the Vikings, and I want to be a part of it.”"
The 27-year-old Harris was considered a journeyman backup when he arrived in Minnesota two seasons ago. He played tackle for the Vikings initially but was switched to guard before last season and won a starting job.
Harris exceeded all expectations as the starting right guard in 2015, providing solid, consistent play.
Once the Harris contract situation is resolved, the Vikings will then begin answering other questions on their offensive line.
Left tackle Matt Kalil is in line to make $11.1 million for 2016 unless the Vikings can re-do his contract. The Vikings are also reportedly set to re-negotiate Phil Loadholt‘s deal.
The Vikings may dip into free agency to replace under-performing left guard Brandon Fusco. Center John Sullivan is also a question mark after missing all of 2015 with a back problem.
