Reggie Nelson: Vikings reach out to Bengals safety (Report)
By Dan Zinski
Reggie Nelson the Bengals free agent safety has been contacted by the Minnesota Vikings according to a media report.
George Iloka is for Viking fans the most intriguing of all the free agent safeties set to hit the market on Wednesday, but if the Vikes can’t land Iloka, maybe his Bengals teammate Reggie Nelson would be a nice consolation prize?
Earlier Monday it was reported that the Vikings have shown interest in Iloka. And they are not alone in targeting the safety.
Monday afternoon, Pioneer-Press reporter Chris Tomasson reported that the Vikings have also reached out to Reggie Nelson.
That whole Mike Zimmer angle sure is a great thing to play for leverage if you happen to be an agent for a Bengals player who is trying to get paid.
In some says Nelson is a less-attractive free agent than Iloka. Nelson is considerably older for one thing, and likely has far fewer good years ahead of him.
However, Nelson will presumably come cheaper than Iloka. And that in the end might be the key factor.
Next: Vikings interested in Mitchell Schwartz
The Vikings of course have already made a move at safety this weekend, signing Andrew Sendejo to a new four-year contract.
As for the rumor mill, the Vikings are also being linked to free agent tackle Mitchell Schwartz.
It’s going to be an interesting few days for the Vikings and a lot of other teams. Better buckle up.
