Rhett Ellison has returned to the Minnesota Vikings, the team officially announced.
Riki Ellison has no future as an NFL insider. A week after Rhett Ellison’s dad posted that his son was leaving the Vikings, Rhett has signed a new deal to return to the team. The Vikings announced the move on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old Ellison is currently rehabbing from a torn patellar tendon suffered in the 2015 regular season finale against the Green Bay Packers.
A fourth-round pick of the Vikings in 2012 out of USC, Ellison has developed into a strong blocking tight end who can occasionally make a play for you as a receiver. Ellison caught 11 passes last year for 124 yards and one TD.
Ellison’s return to the Vikings will be met with approval by fans who love their no-nonsense lunch-pail hard-working blue-collar Jim Kleinsasser-ian players.
The fact of the matter however is that Ellison will have a hard battle to come back from a pretty serious injury. The Vikings will surely look to add more tight end depth either via free agency or the draft in the event that Ellison is not ready for the start of the season.

The Vikings at one point reportedly expressed interest in Cowboys TE James Hanna, who has since re-signed with Dallas. Did the Vikes only turn to Ellison because Hanna came off the market?
In other news, the Vikings officially announced the signing of Marcus Sherels to a new two-year deal. The contract is reported to be worth $4 million with $1.5 million guaranteed.
