Minnesota Vikings: Five potential late-round receiver targets
By Dan Zinski
Moritz Boehringer – Germany
I would be remiss if I did not mention Moritz Boehringer, the 22-year-old German Football League receiver who burst upon the scene a few weeks ago and has been captivating draft experts ever since. The Vikings showed early interest in Boehringer, taking him out to dinner the night before his first workout at FAU pro day. Boehringer of course blew up at that workout, posting a 4.38 40, a 39-inch vertical and measuring in at 6-4, 222.
After Boehringer’s huge initial workout the genie was pretty much out of the bottle. Boehringer worked out again for scouts a few days ago and a bunch of teams were in attendance, including the Patriots, Bears, Panthers, Falcons, Saints and Broncos. That workout was again impressive according to Tony Pauline of Draftinsider. With this many teams interested in Boehringer’s physical tools, it seems almost a given that he will be drafted. Some are actually predicting that Boehringer could sneak into the middle rounds, though that seems like a stretch.
Needless to say, Boehringer’s measurables are pretty much off the charts, but his lack of experience against real competition is a big issue if you’re trying to scout him. Tape of Boehringer seems to show a man among boys, but in the NFL he would be a man among men who have played more football than him against other men. Taking a shot with him in the seventh seems reasonable, but I wouldn’t go higher.
