The NFL draft starts eight days from now on April 28, and the Minnesota Vikings hold the #23 overall pick. What will the Vikings do with that first round pick?

Almost everyone who has been paying any attention during the build-up to the draft thinks the Vikings will select a wide receiver with their first round pick. But what if the Vikings buck conventional wisdom and address a position other than wide receiver? Which player might they bring in?

The Vikes have some needs besides wide receiver. Offensive tackle is a position where they could still stand to add more talent. Safety has been a big issue for several years and remains an issue this year in the minds of many. Running back is another area where some people have concerns.

Linebacker was addressed in free agency but some people think the Vikings could still look at that position early in the draft. Defensive line doesn’t look like an obvious need position but this year’s draft is rich in talent in that area and the Vikes might be tempted to dip into that pool and pluck a big-time player.

Let’s take a look at seven players who could be in play for the Vikings at #23. None of these guys are wide receivers.
