4. Jarran Reed – DT – Alabama

Defensive line is one area where Mike Zimmer will always be looking to add talent. Alabama defensive tackle Jarran Reed (6-3, 307) might be a nice addition in the first round.

Reed’s strength is as a run defender, and frankly it’s good that he’s such a strong player against the run because scouts are not high on his pass rush ability. Power is Reed’s game, but his burst as a pass rusher isn’t that impressive and in fact Alabama used to pull him off the field in obvious passing situations. Reed lacks quickness but is a very good tackler.

Reed feels like a bit of a one-dimensional player to me but a lot of folks have him going in the first round. Personally, I think he would be a better pick for the Vikings if he happens to slide into the second round. The Vikings could also target UCLA DT Kenny Clark either in the first or second. Again, this is a deep draft for defensive tackles and some good players are going to slide into the second.
