The Minnesota Vikings had their fair share of great and not-so-great coaches in team history. Here is a power ranking of all the franchise’s head coaches.
With OTA’s completed and nothing but a mandatory veteran’s mini-camp this coming week before Training Camp, news seems to trickle in a bit more sparsely. What better time to generate some topics of discussion and nothing seems to do that better than some rankings.
So while we all await the start of Training Camp in Mankato, enjoy my take on ranking all 9 of the Minnesota Vikings head coaches (from worst to first). Let’s start with the #9 head coach in team history.
9. Les Steckel
Regular Season Record:: 3-13 (.188)
After Bud Grant’s retirement, the Vikings chose a young offensive assistant in Steckel over Jerry Burns. This turned out to be the worst coaching move to this day in Vikings history. Refusing to step down, the Vikings fired Steckel after going 3-13 and losing the respect of many veteran players. The organization then begged Bud Grant to come back, which he did for one season before handing the team over to a proper coach, Jerry Burns.
