6. Mike Tice

Regular Season Record: 32-33 (.492) | Playoff Record: 1-1

Another “player’s coach” on this list (does this ever work?). Tice replaced Dennis Green during the final game of the 2001 season. The former Viking tight end was a fan favorite and was coach during the first ever playoff game against the hated Packers in Lambeau Field – which of course the Vikings won.

Unfortunately for Tice, he is known more for the off-the-field incidents involving his team and self. The infamous Love Boat scandal would cast a nasty shadow over the franchise for years to come. While you can’t control grown adults at all times, head coaches are always held responsible. Mike Tice also had a scandal of his own when he was busted for organizing and profiting in a Super Bowl ticket scalping operation.

5. Brad Childress

Regular Season Record: 39-35 (.527) | Playoff Record: 1-2 | Two Division Titles

Childress did all he could to make us believe in his “Kick Ass Offense”, but outside of the one magical Brett Favre season, we never saw it. It became quickly evident why Andy Reid did all the play calling in Philly when Childress was his Offensive Coordinator.

Chilly was the butt of jokes on the radio waves in the Twin Cities as well. Referred to as “The Stache”, the furry lipped coach’s demeanor in press conferences became more than laughable, they were flat-out tiresome.
