The long offseason is starting to take its toll on some Minnesota Vikings fans.

Although the summer season is wonderful, getting outdoors, lunches on patios, trips to the beach, all great, but no Minnesota Vikings football. No matter what I try to do there is just a little piece of me that lays dormant between the months of March and September. I’m in no way qualified to diagnose this possibly made up disorder but Vikings Withdrawal Syndrome , VWS, seems pretty real to me.

With the Vikings opening kickoff still being almost 89 days, 8 hours, 10 minutes, and 37 seconds away (approximately) I’m trying to get an early start on my regular season preparation. Here is a small sample of things I’m coping with before September 11, 2016.

Does the football viewing area (aka, the living room in our home) have comfortable seating to watch the 12 hours of NFL treatment I may need on Sundays? If a new seating purchase is in order be sure to have it assembled or delivered at least a few weeks prior to the opener as you want the furniture to be broken in properly, giving you that supportive and secure feel. I try to also think outside of my physical environment and work on some mental preparation as well. I start using short answers with words like, yes, no, sure, and maybe. You may receive some negative feedback from those around you but I’m sure they’ll be understanding once you explain that getting ready for the football season is important to you. Distractions are inevitable, being able to answer any question quickly is a must to getting back to my NFL viewing enjoyment.

Next: Vikings defense will dominate

Since I have not yet been able to invent a time machine I’ll just keep patiently waiting for Blair Walsh or Cordarrelle Patterson to get things started. Knowing that will ignite that little piece of me that has waited all summer to yell out my favorite four letter word, SKOL…
