Sharrif Floyd may have stirred up some bad memories for Vikings fans with his innocent tweet about renting a boat.

Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd was recently named the team’s #1 social media star in an ESPN piece, and Sunday he gave a demonstration of just how powerful his social media presence can be.

An apparently bored Floyd had a hankering to get out on the water for some Fourth of July weekend fun and sent out a call to his Twitter followers for advice on procuring a water craft.

Anywhere else, a tweet like that is met with an outpouring of helpful hints. In Minnesota, it’s met with alarm.

If I have to explain why Vikings fans might raise an eyebrow at a player requesting help in renting a boat to take out on a lake, well, then you don’t know much about the history of the Vikings.

Google “Vikings Love Boat” if you need help. These fans know all about it.

Someday Vikings players will be able to tweet about renting boats without their followers flooding their timelines with jokes about Fred Smoot, Al & Alma’s and flying ladies in from Atlanta.

Someday.
