The Minnesota Vikings made some more transactions this week, releasing two players from the roster and activating a member of the team’s defensive line.

This time of year is crazy for NFL teams. Many players are brought in for a look with things not working out or are injured during training camp, resulting in massive numbers of transactions and bodies moving around. This is the case with the Minnesota Vikings, as three more transactions were made recently.

According to Vikings.com, two players were released on Sunday, including one recently signed player, and another holdover from the 2015 season was activated from the physically unable to perform list.

Here is a rundown of the transactions completed by the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, July 31, 2016:

Waived: LB Jason Whittingham

  • Whittingham was signed less than a week ago, so it’s disappointing to hear that the team has moved on from him so quickly. With no news on why he was released, the reasoning for this move will likely forever be a mystery.

Waived: CB Keith Baxter

  • It was a trip to the hospital and other medical issues that may have scared the team away from Keith Baxter, who at one time was considered a top undrafted free agent signing. Hopefully he can get his medical issues taken care of and return to a football field soon, even if it isn’t with the Vikings.

Activated from the PUP list: DT Kenrick Ellis

  • Ellis stepped in and did a pretty solid job in place of defensive tackle Linval Joseph last season, so it is reassuring that the big man is healthy enough to return to practices at training camp. The reason he was on the PUP list was undisclosed, but it is great that he is able to return to action.

The major goal of training camp is to evaluate the potential of the young players who have been brought in to see if they could find a place on the main roster or practice squad. Sadly, that dream may have ended for Baxter and Whittingham with the Minnesota Vikings, but hopefully they can catch on somewhere else in the future. Best of luck to them going forward.
