Minnesota Vikings training camp: Day 5 stock report
By Josh Zinger
As Minnesota Vikings training camp heats up, The Viking Age takes you inside Mankato to review the top performers and biggest disappointments of day 5.
After a day off, the Vikings returned to the field today for their fifth day of training camp. A hot and sunny day, the high-80 degree temperatures were matched only by the heat of competition. With only a week left in Mankato, fringe players and established veterans alike sought to prove themselves worthy of a spot in the lineup.
The two main focuses of practice today were special teams and red zone work. Kick and punt coverage was highly emphasized, with Mike Priefer working with the punt gunners extensively at downing punts near the goal line and getting downfield to contain the returner. Additionally, the team ran through several iterations of red zone work, with the offense focusing on moving the ball efficiently and the defense focused on preventing explosive plays.
For the most part, the offense and defense were well-matched, with both sides getting the better of the other on several occasions. There were big plays all through practice, with many players sticking out throughout the day. But while many of those players stood out due to their stellar performances, others were distinguished by mistakes and poor play.
On a day with many highs and some lows for the Vikings, here’s everyone who helped or hurt their stock.
