Years ago, the running back position was the most important and most coveted by fantasy football players. Nowadays, however, the crown has seemingly shifted to the quarterbacks and wide receivers.

Adrian Peterson might have something to say about that.

Peterson has been one of the most consistent players in fantasy football since he joined the league in 2007. Going back to the 2009 NFL season (because that’s as far back as NFL.com will go), here is how AD has finished when compared to the other RBs:

  • 2009 – 2nd
  • 2010 – 2nd
  • 2011 – 5th
  • 2012 – 1st
  • 2013 – 8th
  • 2014 – only played 1 game
  • 2015 – 2nd

Some people will worry about Peterson’s age and the amount of carries he’s had throughout his career. I’m not one of them. Until Peterson proves he’s human, I will continue to believe he is a machine that laughs in the face of Father Time.

With most teams moving to a true running back by committee approach, the Vikings are one of the few teams who will feed Peterson the ball over and over. If he stays healthy this year, he will be a top five back in fantasy. He is easily worth a first round pick in your drafts.

Jerick McKinnon is Peterson’s backup, but he will still be drafted. If Adrian were to miss any time because of injury (knock on wood), Jerick will instantly be a lock to produce solid fantasy points. Even if Jerick doesn’t get a start, he will still have some value because of his pass catching skills and ability to take the ball to the house on any touch.

Zach Line won’t be drafted, but there will be a couple of weeks where he is the goal line back and plunges into the end zone, stealing valuable points from Peterson and McKinnon.
