Minnesota Vikings punter Jeff Locke had a bad night against the Seattle Seahawks.

Maybe now Mike Priefer is ready to bring in some competition for Jeff Locke.

Thursday night against Seattle, Locke had a total stinker of a game. And Priefer may be running out of patience.

Things started promisingly when Locke’s first punt traveled 38 yards down to the three where it was downed by Jabari Price. But it was all downhill from there for the Vikings’ only punter.

Locke got good distance on his second punt, hitting it 56 yards, but unfortunately he boomed it right into the end zone for a touchback.

Locke’s very next punt was another long one – 54 yards – but again he sailed it into the end zone.

Back-to-back touchbacks is great if you’re kicking off, not-so-great if you’re punting.

Locke put a capper on his bad night by shanking a punt to give Seattle good field position at their own 35. Twitter noticed:

Worth noting: All these kicks were made in optimal weather conditions in Seattle. It was in the high 80s during the game with only a slight breeze.

Mike Priefer wants us to think that as soon as Locke gets indoors he’ll be fine, but he wasn’t fine last night in a situation that was as close to indoors as you can get without a roof over your head.

Maybe Jeff Locke is just not good, roof or no?

The sensible move would be for the Vikings to call in another man and have a real competition. The Minnesota Vikings reportedly have former Texas Tech punter Taylor Symmank on speed dial.

Former Gophers punter Peter Mortell, a guy lots of Vikings fans wish Minnesota had picked up, is not available as he is currently working for Green Bay.

Jeff Locke may not be working for Minnesota much longer if he doesn’t pick up his performance here quick.

Locke needs a big rebound next week or Priefer might send him to an island and nuke it.
