The Minnesota Vikings made 23 transaction to get to a 53 man roster for the 2016 season. Here are the players who didn’t make the cut or were placed on IR.

This is a sad time of year for many players around the NFL hoping to play a regular season NFL game. Guys from every team, including the Minnesota Vikings, play their hearts out for a chance to be a professional football player.

Sadly, there are days like cut days that send many of these young men back to the grind to work on their craft or find a different profession. In advance of Tuesday’s deadline to cut the team to a 53 man roster, the Vikings announced a lot of moves on Saturday, September 3, 2016 to get to that magical number.

Here are the moves that were made according to the official Minnesota Vikings website:

Released:
DT Kenrick Ellis

Waived:

Placed on Injured Reserve:

  • S Michael Griffin
  • CB Jabari Price

Placed on Reserve / Non-Football Injury list:

  • QB Taylor Heinicke

There aren’t a ton of surprises in the cuts. Some of the most notable ones are 2016 draft picks Willie Beavers, Stephen Weatherly, and Moritz Böhringer. Big man Toby Johnson had a very impressive diving interception during the preseason finale, but that wasn’t enough to stick on a deep defensive line.

Best of luck to these players on their next opportunities in the NFL or whatever path their life brings to them. While some of these guys could find a place on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad, others could latch on somewhere else. Hopefully, these guys will get a longer look in the future and continue to work toward their dreams.
