Offensive MVP: Adam Thielen

Sam Bradford put together a strong case for this award this week, going 22-30 for 271 yards and 2 touchdowns, but Adam Thielen’s impact on this game simply can’t be understated. With star receiver Stefon Diggs sidelined by a groin injury, it was very clear that the Vikings needed someone to step up to lead a struggling receiving corps.

Outside of Diggs, Vikings receivers had combined for only 287 yards and zero TDs going into today’s game, making many wonder if the team would be able to move the ball through the air at all in Diggs’ absence. Adam Thielen answered that question right away.

Less than four minutes into the game, Thielen blew past Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph on a double-move, catching the ball deep in stride for the game’s opening touchdown.

That play alone would have constituted a productive day for Thielen, who has made his impact primarily on special teams over the years, but today it was just the beginning.

Thielen finished the day with seven receptions for 127 yards and one touchdown, blowing his previous career-high of 70 yards out of the water. After today’s performance, expect Thielen to have a more regular spot on the offense moving forward.

On a day when the Vikings desperately need a receiver to step up, Thielen came through with an award-winning performance.
