Report: Vikings interested in signing former Bills cornerback
By Adam Patrick
Free-agent cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman is reportedly drawing some interest from those in the Minnesota Vikings’ front office.
After the Minnesota Vikings lost cornerback Captain Munnerlyn to the Carolina Panthers recently, the Vikings have a decision to make in regards to who will be taking over Munnerlyn’s role in the defense next season. Second-year cornerback Mackensie Alexander seems to be in line for the job at this moment, but Minnesota could opt to go in another direction if they feel he is not quite ready to see more time on the field just yet.
One of the routes the Vikings could take in replacing Munnerlyn is to sign an experienced free-agent corner and according to the Pioneer Press’ Chris Tomasson, Minnesota has expressed interest in a particular defensive back who spent the 2016 season with the Buffalo Bills.
Robey-Coleman has spent all four of his years in the NFL with the Bills after he signed with the team in 2013 as an undrafted rookie free-agent. Last season in Buffalo, the 5-foot-8, 165 pound cornerback played in all 16 games and finished with 30 total tackles, seven pass deflections, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and two touchdowns.
He is a bit on the small side, which has never been a favorite trait of Mike Zimmer’s when it comes to the Vikings’ cornerbacks. But he does have a bunch of experience in being a slot corner on defense, which usually has him matching up with players on the smaller side of the spectrum.

It could just be Minnesota doing their due diligence and exploring their options to improve their team. But if the Vikings do end up signing Robey-Coleman or another nickel corner this offseason, it would definitely reveal a lot about how the team feels currently about Alexander’s progression (or lack there of).
