Minnesota Vikings draft 2017: Post free agency mock draft
By Jordan Reid
After one of the most historic careers in school history, former Tennessee quarterback Josh Dobbs is an intriguing late-round option. Shaun Hill remains a free-agent and Taylor Heinicke is recovering from ankle surgery after kicking in a door prior to training camp, causing him to miss the entire 2016 season.
Going into year three, no one knows what to expect of Heinicke. He has flashed in his limited time during the pre-season, but that was in 2015. After flirting with Nick Foles, it is not out of the question for the team to still sign a veteran behind Sam Bradford.

With the veteran free-agent market options slim at this point, the team may turn to the draft to bring in competition for Heinicke. Dobbs is a perfect fit in Pat Shurmur’s offense as it is similar to what he ran during his time in Knoxville.
Utilizing 10 and 11 personnel, with multiple open sets is when Dobbs is at his best. After the surprise resignation of Norv Turner, the team has now revolutionized their offense.

The former Tennessee signal caller’s biggest weakness are his accuracy and decision making. Two traits that are arguably correctable, as a backup quarterback, Dobbs will have the opportunity to sit and learn behind Bradford, but he does provide immediate competition to Heinicke in training camp and he has the potential to develop into a successful quarterback.
