The Minnesota Vikings are expected to sign the quarterback who started nine games during the 2017 NFL season with the Los Angeles Rams.

With Shaun Hill becoming a free-agent this offseason and the health status of Teddy Bridgewater still up in the air, backup quarterback was an area of the Minnesota Vikings’ roster that needed to be improved upon heading into the 2017 NFL season.

Until Friday, the question remained whether the Vikings would add another quarterback through free agency or through the draft this offseason. But according to Mark Berman of FOX 25 in Houston, Minnesota has already found an answer to that question.

By adding Keenum, the Vikings now will now have a backup quarterback on their roster next year that has actual on-field NFL experience.

He has spent a total of five years in the league since joining the Houston Texans in 2012. Keenum started nine games for the Los Angles Rams last season and threw for a total of 2,201 yards, nine touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

His deal with the Vikings is reportedly just for one-year according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan. This signing also means that Minnesota probably will not be selecting a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft.

However, Keenum’s role with the Vikings is not guaranteed for 2017 as Taylor Heinicke will likely be fighting for Minnesota’s second-string quarterback spot as well this offseason. Adding Keenum may also confirm prior reports that Bridgewater will be sitting out the entire 2017 season has he continues to recover from his serious knee injury.
