Third Selection:

Jamal Adams, SS – LSU

  • 6-feet
  • 214 pounds
  • 40-yard dash: 4.56 seconds

Career stats:

  • 209 tackles, 18 TFLs, two sacks
  • Five interceptions, 14 pass deflections, two forced fumbles

Since Spielman has a history of selecting teammates in past Vikings drafts, why not pick stud, LSU safety Jamal Adams? Yes Minnesota already has a strong safety in Andrew Sendejo, but Allen’s skills would be a dramatic upgrade for the team’s defensive backfield next to Harrison Smith.

Speaking of Smith, Allen delivered his fair share of Smith-like, bone-crushing hits during his career at LSU. Zimmer likes to have players in his defense that can make a tackle on their own and Allen demonstrated that quality of his game on numerous occasions during college.

A duo of Smith and Allen would definitely strike a lot of fear in opposing wide receivers who obliviously decide to run routes over the middle of the field.
