10 worst Vikings draft picks during the Rick Spielman era
By Adam Patrick
6. Josh Robinson, CB
Third round, 66th overall
(2012)
Robinson is a perfect example of a team falling in love with a player due to his fast 40-yard dash time. At the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, the cornerback put up a 40 time of 4.33 seconds and was a top performer in a few other drills as well.
Despite being regarded by most as a late-round prospect, the Vikings still went ahead and selected him in the third round of the draft in 2012.
His speed did come in handy out on the field. But it was mostly in use to catch up to the wide receivers who had easily separated from him due to his lack of coverage skills.
Robinson did last a full four seasons in Minnesota, but he did not see much playing time in 2015 when Mike Zimmer knew better than to put him out on the field. Unfortunately, the Vikings were forced to play the cornerback in their playoff matchup against the Seattle Seahawks later that year and his mistake on a key play was one of the determining factors in Minnesota losing that game (and some guy missing a kick).
Notable players drafted after Robinson:
T.Y. Hilton (Ind), Kirk Cousins (Was), Josh Norman (Car)
