The Minnesota Vikings’ newest wide receiver reportedly will reportedly be able to fulfill the rest of his punishment in the state of Minnesota.

When the Minnesota Vikings opted to sign free-agent wide receiver Michael Floyd last week, questions immediately began to creep up about how his most recent run-in with the law would affect his chances of making the team’s 2017 roster. Especially since he still has to complete a house arrest sentence he was given following a DUI back in December.

Well according to KSTP-TV’s Darren Wolfson on Wednesday, Floyd is scheduled to be in Minnesota this very week.

Wolfson went on to elaborate that the Vikings receiver is able to leave the state of Arizona after getting the rest of his punishment transferred to the state of Minnesota. He will also be allowed to participate in the Vikings’ upcoming OTAs and their mini-camp that is scheduled for the middle of June.

This is very good news for Floyd. Not only did he sign with his hometown team a week ago, but now he has been rewarded and will get to compete for a top spot on Minnesota’s depth chart.

On the other side, receivers like Laquon Treadwell, Jarius Wright, Rodney Adams, and Stacey Coley are not going to have the advantage of having more practice time than Floyd heading into training camp like they may have previously thought.

However, competition is supposed to bring out the best in everyone. So maybe his presence will spark a fire with some of the other receivers who will be playing for a spot on this year’s roster.

But now that he can practice almost immediately, Floyd should be expected to at least be the Vikings’ third or fourth wide receiver to being the regular season.
