The Minnesota Vikings signed their second draft pick of the day on Thursday, this time being their seventh-round pick from Northwestern.

A few hours after announcing the signing of rookie wide receiver Rodney Adams on Thursday, the Minnesota Vikings revealed that the team and rookie defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo had also agreed to a contract.

Odenigbo spent four years on defense at Northwestern University and his 10 sacks in 2016 were the second-most in the Big Ten Conference last season. He also had 22 tackles last year and 12 of them were for a loss of yards.

Right now, it is hard to imagine Odenigbo seeing much playing time during his rookie season with the amount of talented pass rushers on the Vikings’ current depth chart. However, no one really expected Danielle Hunter to do much in his rookie season either back in 2015 and he ended up playing in 14 games and finishing with six sacks and 29 tackles.

Odenigbo’s best odds to contribute for Minnesota in 2017 will likely be on special teams.

Since he is a seventh-round pick, he could even end up being one of the Vikings final preseason cuts this year as well depending on how his training camp goes. If that ends up happening, Minnesota would likely try and still sign Odenigbo to the team’s practice squad.
