The Minnesota Vikings’ 2017 fifth-round draft selection is the first member of the team’s most recent draft class to sign his rookie deal.

It has been almost a whole month since the 2017 NFL Draft concluded and the Minnesota Vikings have finally agreed to contract with one of the 11 players they chose at this year’s event. Former South Florida wide receiver Rodney Adams is now officially a member of the Vikings after the team announced on Thursday that he has signed his rookie contract.

Adams is the first Minnesota player from this year’s draft class to sign his deal with the team. The details of his contract were not provided in the team’s announcement, but the rookie wide receiver’s deal is expected to be worth around $2.6 million according to Over The Cap.

News of the signing conveniently comes a day after reports revealed that the NFLPA had been instructing the Vikings’ 2017 draft class not to sign their rookie contracts until some of the language within the deals was fixed by the team. But now with Adams signing on Thursday, it would not be too surprising if a majority of Minnesota’s draft class were under contract by the beginning of next week.

Not much is known about the Vikings’ plans for Adams in 2017. They are in need of a kick returner and he does have experience returning kicks back from his days at South Florida.

He also scored a total of 20 touchdowns during his last two seasons at the school. So getting the ball in his hands a few times a game this year may be an option for a Minnesota offense that is always searching for their next big time playmaker.
