Still recovering from last season’s knee injury, the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive tackle has possibly shed some light on his future with the team.

This offseason, the Minnesota Vikings added a few new players to the interior of their defensive line in an effort to patch up their underwhelming run defense from a year ago (20th in the NFL). But they may have also added these players because of the uncertainty that has been surrounding defensive tackle Sharif Floyd and if he will ever return to the field for the Vikings.

Floyd only played in one game for Minnesota last year due to a knee injury and later underwent surgery to the issue. However, the operation reportedly caused more harm than good and resulted in Floyd experiencing some nerve issues with his leg.

Rumors of the defensive tackle’s career being in jeopardy began to arise after the information about his botched surgery was released to the public. On Wednesday, Floyd spoke to the local media at the team’s facilities and gave an answer to whether or not he thought his football career could possibly be over.

"“I wouldn’t say that. I think that was just a rumor going (around). Right now, I think everything is going to be alright. It’s just a matter of when.No one (outside of the Vikings) really knows what’s going on. But all I’m trying to do is focus on the things that I can control and hang in there with my teammates. I feel like progress is being made. The defensive tackle also spoke about his chances of getting back on the field for Minnesota this season.

"“It might be a little too early to say, but I feel like I’m (going to) be there. I feel like I’m (going to) be there with my guys. But it’s not in my control. I’m just taking care of what I can take care of.”"

Floyd did not reveal any specific details regarding what exactly is going on with his injury recovery at this point in time, but keeping quiet about injuries has become somewhat expected from players in the NFL these days.

Do the Vikings want him back and ready to play this year? Of course they do, but they are also smart enough to prepare themselves for another season without their young defensive tackle as well.
