Kentrell Brothers injures leg, leaves Vikings camp on a cart

The Minnesota Vikings’ young linebacker went down with what was reportedly an injury to his left hamstring during the team’s practice on Friday.
There is a starting linebacker spot currently up for grabs on the Minnesota Vikings’ defense and one player competing for that job encountered a bit of a speed bump during the team’s training camp practice on Friday.
Midway through practice, second-year linebacker Kentrell Brothers was working in pass coverage and eventually went down with what those present at camp are assuming to be an injury to his left hamstring. Brothers had to be helped off the field and was later seen being taken away on a cart.
If serious, it is an unfortunate blow to Brothers’ hopes of earning a starting spot on Minnesota’s defense this season. Hopefully, it ends up just being a minor tweak (or twinge) and the linebacker can get back to competing out on the field sometime next week.
Brothers is currently fighting for the Vikings’ starting weak-side linebacker spot on the team’s defense with fellow linebackers Emmanuel Lamur and Edmond Robinson. He was already thought of as the third guy in the race and Friday’s injury will not do anything to improve that standing.
In addition to Brothers being carted off, both running back Jerick McKinnon and offensive tackle Riley Reiff did not participate in Friday’s practice. Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer spoke after practice on Friday and said that he does not believe Reiff’s injury is anything to worry about.
