Joseph’s massive contract extension proves how committed the Minnesota Vikings are to him as the team’s nose tackle, but the competition for backup between Shamar Stephen and Jaleel Johnson will be great to watch as the preseason goes on.

With Sharrif Floyd out for now, the spot next to Joseph is up for grabs. For now, veteran Tom Johnson should be the favorite for the job, even though Stephen did an admirable job filling in last season as well.

The real surprise here is Datone Jones being included with the defensive tackles. It was easy to assume he would be included with the defensive ends on a depth chart, but seeing him in this group with so much talent is tough for players like Will Sutton and Dylan Bradley, who might now be in serious danger of not making the final roster.
