The Minnesota Vikings might not be done in free agency according to a rumor that the team is interested in bringing in cornerback Tramaine Brock.

Despite free agency and the draft being a distant memory, rumour has it that the Minnesota Vikings are still looking to add starting caliber players to their highly regarded defense for the 2017 season.

According to Jason La Canfora (CBSsports.com) the Vikings have shown some interest in adding former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Tramaine Brock to their group of defensive backs.

Here is the tweet from LaCanfora reporting Minnesota’s interest in the free agent from his official Twitter account:

Brock had played in San Francisco since being signed as undrafted free agent out of Belhaven University in 2010. He arguably played his best football last year, logging 14 pass deflections and 1 interception in his second season as a starter.  Bleacher Report had him ranked respectfully as the 41st overall cornerback in 2016 and he helped the 49ers rank 14th in passing yards allowed despite their defensive struggles.

You may wonder why Brock is still available with training camps wrapping up, considering so many teams are in need of cornerback assistance in the pass happy NFL, unfortunately domestic violence allegations led to his release from 49ers.  Those charges however have recently been dropped, hence the renewed interest from multiple teams.

As we have seen with a certain high-profile running back in recent days, a lack of charges is not indicative of a player avoiding a suspension and Brock may well still face an NFL investigation. San Francisco have already ruled out resigning their former player but judging by the number of teams interested in him confidence appears high that Brock will avoid missing significant playing time.

If the Vikings are serious about adding Brock they face competition from a number of competitive teams and Seattle reportedly have him visiting them today having tracked the progress of his case.

Reading between the lines if the Vikings are thinking about adding players of Brock’s quality at cornerback it doesn’t bode well for Trae Waynes. The third year corner out of Michigan State was expected to evolve into a 16 game starter opposite Xavier Rhodes in a breakout season. Either he isn’t performing at the required standard or the shoulder injury he suffered against Buffalo is a lot more serious than the team is letting on.

Given the amount of teams interested in Brock, he should be able to choose a franchise in need of a starting corner. For Waynes’ sake lets hope the Vikings are just chancing their luck and attempting to add a luxurious depth player.
