Former Minnesota Vikings assistant fired by the Seattle Seahawks
Former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell is out of a job now after recently being let go by the Seattle Seahawks.
Darrell Bevell, the Minnesota Vikings’ former offensive coordinator, has been fired by the Seahawks after a seven-year stint as the play-caller in Seattle.
Hired in 2011, Bevell was on the staff for both of Seattle’s trips to the Super Bowl and the team missed the playoffs this year for the first time during his tenure. He was a major part of the Seahawks’ ascension to the upper-echelon of NFL franchises.
However, his apparent disgruntled relationship with Seattle-great and now Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch played cause for Lynch’s initial retirement and eventual departure from the Emerald City.
Absent a stable running game, alongside a weakening offensive line, the Seahawks’ offense had seen a considerable drop in consistency and overall production in recent years. After finishing in the top-10 offensively in 2014 and 2015, the Russell Wilson-led attack finished 12th and 15th, respectively, over the past few years.
Is Bevell to blame for Seattle’s lack of offensive line talent or the team’s inability to find a new lead running back after Lynch’s exit?
Probably not, but when your offensive arsenal features weapons such as Wilson, tight end Jimmy Graham, and wide receiver Doug Baldwin, expectations are much loftier than the middle-of-the-line production they experienced in 2017.
Here are a few reactions via twitter of some mourning Seahawks fans.
It seems they’ll miss him dearly.
Bevell was Minnesota’s offensive coordinator during the Brad Childress era, which of course included the magical, Brett Favre-led season of 2009.
After Brad Childress was let go entering the 2011 season, so too went Bevell. He was quickly after hired by Pete Carroll and Seattle, where he’s been ever since.

With current Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur on many teams’ shortlist as a head coach candidate this year, is a Bevell to Minnesota reunion in the cards?
Let’s hope not.
