Spencer Suckow:

Vikings win 24-23

I can’t remember a time that I’ve seen the Vikings’ fanbase this collectively all in on a team. To be fair, I was only two years old during the 1998 season. But still, the fatalism normally seen among Minnesota’s fans seems to only further vanish with each passing week.

It’s not hard to see why. Personally, each time this season that I’ve thought that the Vikings could be primed for a letdown, they come into the game and play at a high level. This team just has a different feel to it and the fans are becoming more confident because of it.

The Saints will present the Vikings their toughest challenge to date. With New Orleans having a future Hall-of-Fame quarterback, a vast array of weapons, and a playmaking defense, Minnesota will have to play a nearly flawless game to win, even at home.

Based on past history, it would be easy for Vikings fans to be pessimistic about this game. In the past, even with a magical season, Minnesota has found ways to blow it.

However, this year’s team has avoided pitfalls and stayed the course all season long, despite the multiple opportunities to do the opposite. This year’s team has been different, and they’ve given me no reason to believe that they won’t continue to be different, even with an extremely tough opponent coming to town on Sunday.
